Skype gets away with using a rounded variation of Helvetica, perhaps the most ubiquitous font of all time, for its logo. The pair of “t”s and the “e” were modified. Previously, the lettering was based on the font Pico. Twitter has by now shed its wordmark in favor of a standalone symbol – the bird. The kerning is tighter and the letters in “Armani” have all been connected. Giorgio Armani uses one of the most famous modern serifs, Didot LT. So-called modern serifs, which are characterized by the conjunction of thick and thin lines, have long been a hallmark of luxury branding. PayPal rounded the edges of the letters to attain a less severe appearance, and altered the bellies of the “a”s to make them a bit squarer and longer. No doubt you have heard of Verdana, that font that PayPal’s logo is based on. Basically, the letters have just been squished a little closer together, merging the “v” and “i” and leaving less space between the “m,” “e” and “o.” PayPal Vimeo’s logo is closely based on a font called Black Rose. It is mostly the use of color that sets Google’s logo apart. The differences are quite tiny: the cross bar on the “e” no longer tapers at the end. Google’s logo is based on the calligraphy-inspired font, Catull BQ. (We wrote about this at greater length here). Can you spot the differences? The two parts of the “k” are merged, the cross bars of the “f” and “a” meet at a parallel slant, and the “c” has been widened slightly. Facebookįacebook’s logo is based on the font Klavika. University Signatures The University of Missouris logo, also referred to as a signature, is a lock-up of the stacked MU and the official wordmark. These color variations should only be used in web or interactive applications. A lighter variation of light gray, clay, sandstone, and mist is provided to meet required ADA compliant contrast ratios for dark text on color. Note that a darker variation of coral is provided to meet required ADA compliant contrast ratios for white text on color. These combinations are recommended so as to align to the university color palette while also meeting the AA contrast standard. The background color and text color combinations shown here conform to the WCAG AA level contrast standard, which requires that color combinations (background + text) meet a minimum contrast ratio. The digital color palette includes additional tints and shades for increased usability on websites and devices.
